That Other John Hughes Film

This past weekend I watched “16 Candles” for the very first time…

Listen friends, I know it’s been 13 years, but lemme tell you what I remember about being 16:

-More Awkwardness

-Butterflies ❤

Now that we’ve taken a trip down teenage memory lane, can we talk about how “meh” this film was? Didn’t John Hughes write “The Breakfast Club” and “Ferris Bueller’s Day off”?! Sigh. I guess they all can’t be amazing.

It’s a Sailboat!

I would rather stare at this Magic Eyes poster for a week (and not see the sailboat) than watch “Mallrats” ever again. Despite the fact that there are a LOT of familiar faces, this movie just didn’t do it for me. Sorry, I’m not sorry.

But, I’ll humor you anyways… Here are a few of my reactions to watching “Mallrats’ for the first time:

-“I can’t believe I’m wasting 123 minutes of my precious time on this movie.”

-“For real?”

Ok, I’ve just been told that I was supposed to watch “Clerks” before “Mallrats”. MY LIFE IS OVER! (And if “Clerks” is as terrible as this, I might hold my breath until I pass out.)

Hey, You Guys!

On June 7th, 1985 “The Goonies” was released. It’s 29 years later and I have just watched it for the first time. Can you believe it?!

I’m super sad that I didn’t see this movie as a kid. Just think of all the good/bad ideas it would have given me! The good news is I still can learn a lot from “The Goonies” even as an adult…

-Doing the truffle shuffle may get you into the cool club, but it will never make you cool.

-Good friends are hard to come by and they come in all shapes and sizes. It takes all kinds!

-Life is full of booty booby traps. Be prepared!

-Confession is good for the soul. Be honest, not just when your hand is being held over a blender.

-Great adventures are rare. So, if you find a treasure map (or just a really cool life opportunity), go for it! You may never get the chance again!

There were quite a few times throughout the movie where I turned to my husband and said, “I swear to you, I am Chunk in real life”. So, I took the Buzzfeed Quiz to determine which Goonie character I am. Here’s a screen grab of my results…

Told ya! It must be his infinite love for ice cream and pizza.

I truly loved this movie, so thanks for the suggestions! Now, I’m going to go watch that “Goldbergs” episode from a few weeks ago with all the Goonies references. I’ll get ‘em now!
